Laser hair removal is the fastest and safest method for permanent hair removal. The laser works by sending energy into the pigment of the hair shaft, which is absorbed by the surrounding follicle. The heat generated by this process damages the follicle and stops hair production.

Laser hair removal is appropriate for any area where there is excess hair, with the important exception of the eye area. Since the laser works on more than one follicle at a time, larger areas like the back, arms or legs are just as easily treatable as smaller areas like the upper lip or bikini line.

How are the treatments performed?

The initial consultation: Our laser technologist will advise you on what to expect from laser treatment and will explain the different options available to you, the procedure itself, and its risks and limitations. Test spots may be performed to determine whether your hair will respond favorably to the laser.

The treatment:
During the procedure you’ll feel the lasers gentle light on the skin as the laser is absorbed by the hair follicles. Each pulse of the laser lasts a fraction of a second and treats an area of approximately ½ inch. Our lasers are equipped with a cooling system to decrease skin temperature to preventing burns from the heat generated by the laser.

How long do the treatments take?

The treatment time can vary considerably depending on the size of the area treated, and the particular technique used. A small area such as the upper lip may take only five minutes, while a larger area like the back or legs may take up to one hour.

Since the laser affects only those hairs in the growing stage, and not all hairs will be in this stage at the same time, several treatments will most likely be needed to effectively remove all the hair from one area. Subsequent sessions will be scheduled at least a month apart, when you will probably begin to notice the re-growth of hairs that were previously in the resting stage.

What can I expect afterward?

Following the procedure the area may be red or swollen, as if mildly sunburned. Occasionally, the skin in the treated area becomes slightly crusty, but this reaction should fade within a few days.

Although you can resume your normal activities, you should avoid exposing the treated area to the sun. Clean the area with mild soap and water and do not use any products that may irritate the skin (such as Retin-A or astringents).

You’ll notice hair “growing” in the area within ten days of your treatment. This is actually the damaged hair falling out, rather than re-growth. You may shave these hairs if they bother you, but do not wax, tweeze, or bleach hairs between sessions.

If you have a dark complexion, you may notice a temporary lightening of the skin in the area. Although most patients are satisfied with the results of laser hair removal, it is impossible to predict the success of the treatment for each individual. The resiliency of hair follicles in different parts of the body and in different individuals can vary widely. Multiple treatments are usually needed to reduce the amount of unwanted hair permanently.

Before Your treatment: Relax! - There is usually minimal or no discomfort- you’re in good hands and we will ensure your treatments are gentle and effective. Feel comfortable- this is what we do and we do it well! Nothing to be embarrassed about- hair growth is natural and we all want to be hair free! Our team of professionals has expertise in clearing unwanted hair from all parts of the body.

Types of lasers? Is it effective? How many treatements will I need?

Renew Beauty has several different lasers to treat all hair colors and all hair types. All lasers are safe and effective. We pride ourselves on having the best technology. All hair colors and hair types can be treated except grey and very blond hair. We will choose the “right “laser for you based on the type of treatment being performed and the area we are treating.

We may use numbing topical products in some instances. If this product is used, it may keep the area being treated numb for up to 3 hours. Please let us know if you have any allergies to topical numbing or latex gloves.

Post care instructions: Please avoid direct sun tanning for at least 1 week post your treatment. Self tanners/spray tans are a great solution against the harmful rays of the sun and can give you that same “sun kissed glow”. If you must be in the sun, use a 45 to 50 SPF sunscreen with titanium oxide- We offer medical grade sun screen and organic hair inhibiting products/ ingrown hair solutions as part of your postcard. We strongly recommend these products to help you achieve the best results. Ask your provider for details.

Shaving is recommended prior to your next treatment- you may shave as often as you wish! Please do not wax, tweeze or pluck. You may bleach or use products such as Nair until your next treatment.

Reminder Considerations for your next appointment:

Please shave the night before or the day of prior to your appointment. Avoid using moisturizers on the day of treatment. If you are having your underarms treated, please try to refrain from using underarm deodorant. Ladies: If you are treating your bikini area, please review your calendar to ensure you will not be menstruating at the time of your next appointment. Also, if you become pregnant, please call us so we may postpone your treatments until 2 months after the arrival of your child.
