How does a photofacial work?

The intense light of the Photofacial was designed to mimic an artificial sunlight, without exposing the skin to the harmful UVA/UVB rays that normal sunlight provides. Instead, the IPL is a pure and intense light and provides two healthy components to the skin: Light and Oxygen. Light and Oxygen are the two components needed to actually reverse and remove the sun damage and hyper- pigmentation from the skin. The IPL also has an optical function, in which it is able to seek and find the pigment. In other words, the IPL is "color-seeking" and instantly attracted to any discoloration in the skin. The unique aspect of the Photofacial is that it is able to identify discoloration throughout all layers of the skin (epidermis through dermis layers). This enables all sun damage in the skin to be removed from a "bottom up" effect. The damaged pigment is literally raised to the surface layer of the skin and sloughs itself off shortly thereafter.

What Makes Our Technology Different?

The Radio Frequency in addition to the IPL will yield two benefits:

  1. It yields faster and efficient results

  2. Stimulates the collagen of the skin on a much deeper level, therefore, promoting more skin tightening than the average Photofacial (that primarily focuses on removing discoloration).

How quick are the results from IPL?

Improvements from an IPL PhotoFacial in Dallas and Frisco can be noticeable after each session, but the most significant results typically appear a month after completing a full series of treatments. It's common for patients to experience varying responses with each session. Over time, you can expect gradual enhancement in redness, blotchiness, sun spots, and age spots, leading to a more even and radiant complexion.

What are possible side effects from IPL?

Most patients experience mild side effects, like temporary swelling, redness, crusting, bruising, or superficial blisters. These subside within a day or two after the procedure. Patients will not be sun sensitive, but they should keep in mind that excessive sun exposure will affect the results of the procedure. Patients should always wear sunscreen to protect their skin, and decrease the appearance of redness, brown spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer.

Do I need to prep for IPL?

Patients about to undergo an IPL therapy in Dallas and Frisco are usually asked to avoid self-tanners and excessive sun for 2 – 4 weeks prior to the procedure. You should discontinue the use of minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline or Retin-A/Renova several days before each treatment and may be asked to take aspirin or ibuprofen a week before the procedure to help prevent bruising. You should also protect the treated areas with sunscreen between sessions.
